I would like to welcome all of you back for what we hope will be another exciting school year in the Daniel Boone Area School District. As you may know, we are approaching completion of our high school stadium renovations, along with the addition of 200 more parking spaces on the high school campus. We also re-opened our Amity Primary Center for about 440 students, in kindergarten through second grade, after completion of a year long renovation project. Beyond these projects, we will also be focusing on program and fiscal issues during this school year.

Regarding the high school stadium project, we are anticipating our first use of the stadium in mid-September. As the date for final completion becomes more certain, we will be announcing specific dates for our first events in the stadium, including a date to formally dedicate the renovated facility. We are also anticipating a mid-October completion date for the additional two hundred parking spaces on the high school campus.

In terms of program, with the re-opening of APC, we now have 3 full K- 5 elementary campuses. With the opening of the new Monocacy Elementary Center in 2008 and the closure last year of Amity Primary Center for renovations in 2009, we had been unable to establish any continuity of staff and students except for our Birdsboro Elementary Center. However, we now have stability of staff, program and building administration at each of our three elementary centers and we look forward to this stability as a means to make our elementary academic program even stronger.

Another exciting program development you will notice this year is the improvement of our district website to include individual teacher web pages that will allow parents to remain informed about what is going on in each teacher’s class throughout the district in grades K-12. We started the use of these pages last year but we fully implemented individual teacher web pages this year. We believe these web pages are a vital communication link for our students and their parents.

Again, welcome to the new school year! I will keep you posted throughout the year here in the “Superintendent’s Corner” on what is going on in our district. I will be dedicating postings on this page to other program issues which will include budget updates, academic updates, and other important issues that may arise during the school year.

I hope all of our students get off to a great start and enjoy a successful 2010-2011 school year! Always feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have about our district.

Sincerely,

Dr. Gary L. Otto
Superintendent of Schools
