Mrs. Melanie Hefter, Principal

  • Dear Daniel Boone Area School District Community,

It is with great pleasure that I introduce myself as the Elementary Principal of Daniel Boone Area Primary Center.  My name is Melanie Hefter and I am honored to nurture Daniel Boone’s youngest learners. The 2019-2020 school year marks the beginning of my 25th year here at Daniel Boone.  I consider it my distinct pleasure to work with every Kindergarten, first and second grade student who attends Daniel Boone Area School District.

Our building, located at 576 Monocacy Creek Road, Birdsboro, opened in 2008.  Our current enrollment is about 600 children.  We currently have 10 sections of kindergarten (2 full-day classes, 4 morning and 4 afternoon sections), 9 first grade classrooms and 9 second grade classrooms.  43 professional staff members and 21 support staff serve the children attending our school.

We are truly proud of our school community and the accomplishments of our students and staff!   It is the dedication of our committed faculty and staff that makes our school a shining example of what we want for all of our children- a safe and nurturing school environment that encourages children to grow as learners and good citizens in our school community.  There are many DBAPC partnerships and programs that we are proud of, including our partnership with the United Way and the “Ready, Set, Read” program which provides volunteers to help our children with literacy skills, the “Teachers in the Parks” Summer program held at Maple Springs pool, our partnership with the Daniel Boone High School Ecology Club, the Foster Grandparent Program through Alvernia University, the “weekend food backpack program” through the Helping Harvest (formerly known as the Greater Berks Food Bank), our annual Veteran’s program, our annual Peter Rabbit first grade play, our annual winter reading contest through our library and so much more.  We are thankful for all of the partnerships that we have created to support the children.  The children are truly our main focus at DBAPC!

I am sincerely amazed by the amount of academic and social progress children make from the start of kindergarten to the end of 2nd grade!  You, as your child’s first teacher, are an integral part of that ongoing growth.  As partners, we ask you to unite with us to ensure your child is progressing to his/her highest potential.  We encourage you to attend school events and work with your child at home to achieve sustained mastery and progress.

It is crucial to your child success to attend school each day that they are able to, barring any illness or emergency situation.  We greatly appreciate you making daily school attendance a priority.

We utilize our website and phone system to keep you informed of important announcements, but we also post events and pictures on our Daniel Boone Area School District facebook account.

Please communicate with us, ask questions, and be involved.  Please feel free to reach me by phone at 610-385-6800 or by email at melanie.hefter@dboone.org.  I sincerely look forward to working with your family during these formative years of Kindergarten through 2nd grade.

    Fondly,

    Melanie Hefter

Mr. Curtis Fleming, Assistant Principal

  • Dear Primary Center families,

As your assistant principal of both the Primary Center and Intermediate Center, I would like to extend a warm welcome to every family in the Daniel Boone community!  I am excited to begin another year working in partnership to ensure every student in the Primary Center and the Intermediate Center are actively engaged in a rigorous learning experience while developing social-emotional skills that will foster resilience, perseverance, empathy and the ability to collaborate and communicate in diverse communities.

This past school year, it has been my honor serving as the Intermediate Center's Assistant Principal as well as our district's Safety and Security Coordinator.  During my service, I have taken advantage of the opportunity to learn all that I can about our wonderful Boone staff, community and culture. I will now be focusing my service under Mrs. Hefter and Mrs. Weber, at both elementary buildings, to continue to build the culture alongside our staff and students.

As the new school year starts, I want to assure you that I will make every effort to provide the kind of leadership that honors Daniel Boone’s history and support the continued efforts of the staff and volunteers to provide an outstanding education for our students.

It is with great pride and honor to serve your children. Because of this, we want you to know that we take our responsibility as educators very seriously.  We will do everything in our power to make sure your child feels respected, safe, happy and successful. One of the greatest characteristics of the Daniel Boone learning community is the genuine care and compassion shared between staff, students, and parents. I can attest that the Primary Center and Intermediate Center are both places where staff and families come together to ensure that the children entrusted into our care grow to be productive, confident, compassionate, members of a global society.

I am looking forward to an amazing year!

    Sincerely,

    Curtis Fleming
