🕰️ Throwback Thursday: Birdsboro’s Second High School – The Roosevelt Building | Part 2 🕰️

81 years ago, the only sports at Birdsboro High School were Boys Basketball (team picture shown here), Baseball, Bowling, Cheerleading, and Cross Country. Back then, the school called themselves the “Birds.” Other activities included Band, Debate Team, Glee Club, Hi-Y, and History Club.

If you could bring back one club from 1945, what would it be? 🏫

💡 Did you know?
In 1943 and 1944, Birdsboro High School cross country runner Tony DaDamino won back-to-back State Championships!

🎓 Alumni Spotlight: Todd Peterson (Class of 1987) 🎓

Since graduating from Daniel Boone Area High School in 1987, everything Mr. Peterson has done has been for the community.

Mr. Peterson worked for 31 years as a police officer for Spring Township, in addition to being the president of the Birdsboro Community Memorial Center and running a historical Facebook page called Birdsboro of Yesterday. 🚔

One of the most rewarding parts of Mr. Peterson’s work is when people recognize a family member in one of his frequent posts. In one such instance, Mr. Peterson helped locate the son of a former Birdsboro graduate who was killed in WWII. The son, having never met his father, was taken to Europe where he was given a tour and his father’s 1941 class ring. The entire encounter was written in an article by the Stars and Stripes newspaper.

“It takes a lot to keep a building up and running.” This simple phrase exhibits exactly what Mr. Peterson has been doing for his whole life. Any responsibility requires work and true dedication to fulfill and it is clear that Mr. Peterson has become an invaluable member of the Birdsboro Community. You can still find Mr. Peterson announcing for school football games, so next time you're at a game keep an eye out for the Daniel Boone alumnus. 🏈

Mr. Peterson also had a few words of advice for current high school students. “Have fun. Enjoy your time.”

Want to read more about Todd Peterson? Visit the NEWS section of our website at www.dboone.org.

This spotlight is the first in a new alumni series led by student intern Dan Shank—if you'd like to be featured in this series, email us at alumni.relations@dboone.org.
