🚀 A huge THANK YOU to the Berks County Community Foundation for sponsoring a teacher mini-grant to purchase an Air Tunnel for Parachute Engineering Design Challenge for our Middle School STEM program! 🎉 Thanks to their generosity, students in Mrs. Worrell's class used the engineering design process to build and test mini parachutes—learning all about gravity, air resistance, and surface area in a fun, hands-on way. 🪂💨 The grant also provided the extra supplies needed—kite string, tape, scissors, and more—to bring these creative designs to life. Students in Mrs. Karen Worrell’s class had the chance to dive into hands-on learning with their brand-new LEGO SPIKE Bots this year — made possible through a grant from the Blazer Education Foundation! 🧠🤖💙 With these kits, students have the opportunity to build, program, and solve real-world challenges. From writing code that gets their bots moving to experimenting with sensors and solving tricky design problems, they’re developing critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration every step of the way. 🔦 Blazer Legacy Spotlight 🔦 As we wrap up the school year, we’re proud to celebrate three incredible members of our extended DBASD family who are retiring after years of dedicated service to our schools and students. 💙 Gary Ingham has been a fixture at the Middle School since the building opened in 2005, proudly supporting our school through his work with SSC Services for Education. His steady presence and behind-the-scenes work have helped keep our building running smoothly for nearly two decades. 💙 Jeanne Koch, a valued member of The Nutrition Group, has been keeping students fueled and cared for at the Middle School for the past 25 years. Her kindness, consistency, and warm smile have made the cafeteria a welcoming place for generations of Blazers. 💙 Nancy Kramer began her time at Boone in 2020 and continued with Krise Transportation when they became our provider in 2022. Nancy’s commitment to getting students to and from school safely has been deeply appreciated. They’ve truly been part of our Blazer family, and their presence will be missed. Congratulations, Gary, Jeanne, and Nancy! We wish you all the best in your well-earned retirement! 🎉

🌟 Blazer Legacy Spotlight: Shelly Mieczkowski 🌟 After an incredible 41 years in the Daniel Boone Area School District—21 years as a Special Education teacher and 20 years as Director of Special Education—Shelly Mieczkowski retires having transformed lives and systems alike. Memorable Moments? Blazer Olympics and being featured on a 20/20 episode that highlighted one of her students with Asperger Syndrome when she was an Autistic Support teacher—just two shining examples of a career full of purpose. Over the years, Shelly championed inclusive education, working tirelessly to create structures that recognize individual strengths, promote independence, and foster belonging. 🛠️ Highlight Reel: Overhauled the district’s IEP development and implementation process Launched districtwide training to shift the culture from compliance to inclusion Built partnerships with families, agencies, and community organizations Led with advocacy, courage, and compassion in tough conversations Celebrated every milestone as students overcame obstacles and achieved success Left behind a stronger special education system, empowered faculty, and students who know they belong Shelly shares: “My years in Daniel Boone have taught me the value of building meaningful relationships with students, families, and colleagues. 🍎 Blazer Legacy Spotlight: Bonnie Herb 🍎 After 31 years of dedicated teaching—18 in 3rd grade and 13 in 5th—Bonnie Herb leaves behind a legacy filled with laughter, kindness, and unforgettable moments. From softball games to space shuttles, Bonnie brought energy and heart into everything she did. “One of my favorite memories will always be the annual staff vs. students softball game. I can still picture Les Mountz winding up for a home run!” She also fondly remembers the inspiring leadership of Ann Marie Traynor and the camaraderie of her teammates throughout the years. 🌟 Highlight Reel: Field Days filled with smiles and sunshine That time a pony visited the classroom! 🐴 Getting "pie-d" in the face for reading challenges AIC staff fun and unforgettable days at BEC Space shuttle simulations, classroom adventures, and countless shared laughs Bonnie reflects on her time in the classroom with deep gratitude: “Teaching allowed me to appreciate all of the different children I’ve known. I hope I’ve been kind and caring to my students and a wonderful teammate to my peers.” 👵💕 Retirement plans? Lots of quality time with her grandchildren and making new memories beyond the classroom. 📘 Blazer Legacy Spotlight: Celebrating Kellei Graul 🌟 After 31 incredible years as a 5th grade teacher, Kellei Graul is closing her classroom door — but her impact at Daniel Boone will live on for generations. A Boone graduate herself, Kellei returned to the district that shaped her to give back in the most meaningful way: by educating and inspiring young Blazers. 💙🤍 From Field Day fun to the unforgettable 5th grade vs. teachers volleyball games and heartfelt Recognition Ceremonies, Kellei cherished the events that brought students and staff together as one strong school community. “Working here has continued to make me Blazer Proud. I’m proud to be a Blazer!” In her classroom, students were encouraged to laugh, learn, and imagine — guided by her classroom pledge: 👉 “Laughing and Learning.” 👉 “Filling our Files” with facts and knowledge. 👉 “Use your Imagination” all the time! As she retires, Kellei hopes her legacy is one of kindness, care, and joy — for her students and her colleagues.
