🌟 Blazer Legacy Spotlight: Shelly Mieczkowski 🌟 After an incredible 41 years in the Daniel Boone Area School District—21 years as a Special Education teacher and 20 years as Director of Special Education—Shelly Mieczkowski retires having transformed lives and systems alike. Memorable Moments? Blazer Olympics and being featured on a 20/20 episode that highlighted one of her students with Asperger Syndrome when she was an Autistic Support teacher—just two shining examples of a career full of purpose. Over the years, Shelly championed inclusive education, working tirelessly to create structures that recognize individual strengths, promote independence, and foster belonging. 🛠️ Highlight Reel: Overhauled the district’s IEP development and implementation process Launched districtwide training to shift the culture from compliance to inclusion Built partnerships with families, agencies, and community organizations Led with advocacy, courage, and compassion in tough conversations Celebrated every milestone as students overcame obstacles and achieved success Left behind a stronger special education system, empowered faculty, and students who know they belong Shelly shares: “My years in Daniel Boone have taught me the value of building meaningful relationships with students, families, and colleagues. On Tuesday, June 3rd, members and families of the Class of 2025 gathered at the high school for a heartfelt Baccalaureate service. The evening was led by our Fellowship of Christian Students group under the guidance of club advisor Mr. Bret Stamy, in partnership with local members of the Southeastern Berks Ministerium: Rev. Andrew VanBuren and Rev. Midge Pendergast of St. Gabriel's Episcopal Church - Douglassville, Rev. Greg Frey and Deacon Joy Gerhart of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church - Douglassville, and Rev. Jim Farnsworth of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church - Birdsboro. Thank you to all who shared words of faith and encouragement, and to our choir director Mrs. Erin Benn’s Varsity Voices for their beautiful performance. 🎓 Blazer Legacy Spotlight: Barb Young 🎓 Celebrating 26 remarkable years of teaching, compassion, and community impact. Barb Young is more than a math teacher and self-proclaimed “math geek"—she's a force of good in the lives of 3,300+ students, colleagues and the DB community. ✨ Unforgettable Moment : “The impact we made with Relay For Life of Daniel Boone.” From 2011 to 2022, Barb helped raise over $1 million to fight cancer. Even during COVID, the mission never stopped. “There’s nothing like walking the survivor lap surrounded by students, friends, and family.” 🙌 Through teaching, Barb says she grew too: “I’m more empathetic. I’ve learned how one person can make a difference every day.” While she taught math, she focused on life lessons: “Being a good, productive human is more important than any one subject. College isn’t for everyone—we need people in trades, too. What we make doesn’t define our worth.” 💬 What she hopes students remember: “That I challenged them to think about math differently, to think critically, and to care. 🎓 Blazer Legacy Spotlight: Susan Fulmer 🎓 Celebrating 30 years of heart, history, and helping students find their path! After 4 years as a dedicated substitute and 26 years of teaching, Sue Fulmer is closing a meaningful chapter at Daniel Boone Area School District. Over the decades, Sue has done more than teach history—she’s made it, building a legacy of compassion, connection, and community involvement. One of Sue’s favorite memories? The pure joy on the faces of elementary students during the annual Seuss Show—especially when the “rain song” starts and they get an unexpected splash of fun! 🌧️📚 Sue reflects: “Daniel Boone has provided me with the opportunity to grow as both a teacher and a person through all of my experiences with students and colleagues.
