Our Alumni Spotlight series - created by communications intern Daniel Shank - continues with a story of hard work, purpose, and a commitment to serving others.

After graduating from Daniel Boone Area High School in 1979, Richie Bowden threw himself right into work.

Beginning in Mr. Bowden's early childhood, he would help out in his father’s auto mechanic garage. It was in these moments that Mr. Bowden’s father instilled in him the work ethic that he possesses today.

That way of life stuck with Mr. Bowden. At times, he worked two full-time jobs and another on the weekends, working up to 20 hours a day. Mr. Bowden described it as an β€œaddiction” to making money; working was his fulfillment.

But then, one day, that changed. β€œGod was calling me that I had to go into the community.” At first he was reluctant, but soon he realized: β€œHow much is enough?”

Now, Mr. Bowden is profoundly involved in various community services. Using expertise crafted through decades of work, he helps fix and renovate houses with Mission Trip Birdsboro and Restoring Hope of Berks County. Mission Trip Birdsboro has grown to encompass seven different partnership organizations. Anyone can volunteer to help out, and there is even a prominent youth presence. πŸ”¨

He also helps feed those in need with Hopewell Love Community Services and sings with Threefold Blessings, a traveling praise and worship team where he has used his gifts to honor God almost every Sunday.

Mr. Bowden said his heart was never in school, but it is evident that he possesses the exact skills that schools are designed to teach. Grades alone cannot change the world, but the impact Mr. Bowden has on the community certainly can.

Mr. Bowden also had a few words of advice for current high school students, β€œStick with it.”

If you or someone you know would like to be featured in a future Alumni Spotlight, please contact us at alumni.relations@dboone.org
to share your story.

πŸ•°οΈ Throwback Thursday: Future Business Leaders of America πŸ•°οΈ

In 1969, the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter was established at Daniel Boone. FBLA was intended to give interested business students the opportunity to expand their abilities and gain experience in the business field.

Today, the organization includes nearly 200,000 high schoolers nationwide. At Daniel Boone, Miss Madison served as the club’s first advisor 57 years ago, and today the chapter is led by Mr. Moulin. While much has changed over the years, the club’s commitment to leadership, learning, and community service has remained unchanged.

Thanks to student intern, Daniel Shank, for creating this month's Throwback Thursday post!

⚾️ Big news for Blazer Baseball!

Baseball America has released its 2028 High School MLB Draft Rankings, and we’re excited to share that senior Greyson Bell is ranked #4 on their draft list! We're thrilled to see Greyson’s hard work earning national recognition at this level.

Baseball America describes Greyson as:
β€œGreyson Bell from Pennsylvania has separated himself as the top lefty for 2028 thanks to a great mix of stuff and pitchability beyond his years with a starter look.”

Greyson Bell write-up 4. Greyson Bell LHP Ht. 6'2" Wt: 182 B-T: L-L School: Daniel Boone Area High School, Birdsboro, Penn. Committed: Uncommitted Age at Draft: 18.1 Bell oozes with traits scouts love to see in a young pitcher. He pitches from a silky smooth delivery, a low-effort operation that he repeats consistently to throw strikes at a high clip with pitchability beyond his years. He pitches off a fastball thats up to 91 mph, and as one of the younger pitchers in the class with good physical projection remaining, he should be into the mid 90s in the near future. Bell's ability to locate both his fastball and breaking stuff is advanced. He has innate feel to spin both his curveball and slider, with his slider the bigger swing-and-miss weapon. It's one of the better sliders in the 2028 class, a high-spin breaking ball with impressive sweep and two-plane depth to miss bats running away from lefties or when he throws it to the back foot of a righthanded hitter. His changeup is still behind his other stuff, but the mechanics, control and stuff all point to a starter who projects to pile up strikeouts.
