Students in Mrs. Karen Worrellβs class had the chance to dive into hands-on learning with their brand-new LEGO SPIKE Bots this year β made possible through a grant from the Blazer Education Foundation! π§ π€π
With these kits, students have the opportunity to build, program, and solve real-world challenges. From writing code that gets their bots moving to experimenting with sensors and solving tricky design problems, theyβre developing critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration every step of the way.

As we wrap up the school year, weβre proud to celebrate three incredible members of our extended DBASD family who are retiring after years of dedicated service to our schools and students.
π Gary Ingham has been a fixture at the Middle School since the building opened in 2005, proudly supporting our school through his work with SSC Services for Education. His steady presence and behind-the-scenes work have helped keep our building running smoothly for nearly two decades.
π Jeanne Koch, a valued member of The Nutrition Group, has been keeping students fueled and cared for at the Middle School for the past 25 years. Her kindness, consistency, and warm smile have made the cafeteria a welcoming place for generations of Blazers.
π Nancy Kramer began her time at Boone in 2020 and continued with Krise Transportation when they became our provider in 2022. Nancyβs commitment to getting students to and from school safely has been deeply appreciated.
Theyβve truly been part of our Blazer family, and their presence will be missed.
Congratulations, Gary, Jeanne, and Nancy! We wish you all the best in your well-earned retirement! π

After an incredible 41 years in the Daniel Boone Area School Districtβ21 years as a Special Education teacher and 20 years as Director of Special EducationβShelly Mieczkowski retires having transformed lives and systems alike.
Memorable Moments?
Blazer Olympics and being featured on a 20/20 episode that highlighted one of her students with Asperger Syndrome when she was an Autistic Support teacherβjust two shining examples of a career full of purpose.
Over the years, Shelly championed inclusive education, working tirelessly to create structures that recognize individual strengths, promote independence, and foster belonging.

Launched districtwide training to shift the culture from compliance to inclusion
Built partnerships with families, agencies, and community organizations

On Tuesday, June 3rd, members and families of the Class of 2025 gathered at the high school for a heartfelt Baccalaureate service.
The evening was led by our Fellowship of Christian Students group under the guidance of club advisor Mr. Bret Stamy, in partnership with local members of the Southeastern Berks Ministerium:

After 31 years of dedicated teachingβ18 in 3rd grade and 13 in 5thβBonnie Herb leaves behind a legacy filled with laughter, kindness, and unforgettable moments.
From softball games to space shuttles, Bonnie brought energy and heart into everything she did.
βOne of my favorite memories will always be the annual staff vs. students softball game. I can still picture Les Mountz winding up for a home run!β
She also fondly remembers the inspiring leadership of Ann Marie Traynor and the camaraderie of her teammates throughout the years.

Celebrating 20 years of sparking curiosity and a love for reading in the halls of Daniel Boone!
Robin Fox has been the heart of our libraries for two decadesβserving at the High School, Middle School, and Intermediate Center. She fondly remembers helping to design the layout of the brand-new library when the Middle School first opened.
βWorking with the school community has been such a joy. Iβve learned so much from both colleagues and students over the years,β she shared.

Celebrating 26 remarkable years of teaching, compassion, and community impact.
Barb Young is more than a math teacher and self-proclaimed βmath geek"βshe's a force of good in the lives of 3,300+ students, colleagues and the DB community.
β¨ Unforgettable Moment :
βThe impact we made with Relay For Life of Daniel Boone.β
From 2011 to 2022, Barb helped raise over $1 million to fight cancer. Even during COVID, the mission never stopped. βThereβs nothing like walking the survivor lap surrounded by students, friends, and family.β
π Through teaching, Barb says she grew too:
βIβm more empathetic. Iβve learned how one person can make a difference every day.β While she taught math, she focused on life lessons:
βBeing a good, productive human is more important than any one subject. College isnβt for everyoneβwe need people in trades, too. What we make doesnβt define our worth.β
π¬ What she hopes students remember:
βThat I challenged them to think about math differently, to think critically, and to care. And I hope Iβve shown how to face adversity with strength and grace.β

Celebrating 21 years of learning, laughter, and loveβ2 years in Kindergarten and 19 unforgettable years in 1st grade!
For over two decades, Anita Brady has been a joyful and steady presence in the lives of Daniel Booneβs youngest learners. With a heart full of patience and a classroom full of curiosity, Anita helped her students build strong foundationsβnot just in reading and math, but in confidence, kindness, and resilience.
π One of her favorite memories?
βThe year I looped with my Kindergarten class to 1st grade! Day 1 was a breezeβwe all knew what to expect from each other.β That unique experience brought extra joy and connection, a hallmark of Anitaβs teaching approach.
Throughout her career, Anita embraced the opportunity to work with a diverse population of students and families. βIt helped me understand the importance of looking at individual needsβnot just for students, but for their families too.β Her empathy and insight touched lives far beyond the classroom.

After two decades serving students in Illinois and the last 6 years as a school nurse at Daniel Boone Area School District, Beth Haines is retiring with an incredible 40 years of nursing experience. She brought a wealth of knowledge, a deep well of empathy, and a great sense of humor to the halls of the Intermediate Center.
Beth reflects:
βEach day is full of new comments or situations that make me giggle. The kids say the darndest things that warm your heart! I came to DB with a lot of experience, but I quickly realized thereβs always more to learn. Iβve learned so much here.β
Known for being a safe space, a steady hand, and a true advocate, Beth has helped countless students and staff through everything from scraped knees to more serious challengesβwith grace, encouragement, and often a bit of laughter.
π‘ What sheβll remember most:
The long line of students outside her door (some with real ailments, some just needing a moment)
The meaningful conversations with parents, offering calm reassurance
Encouraging staff and answering medical questions with patience and care
Teaching puberty classes and hygiene basics (with humor and empathy!)
