🔦 Blazer Legacy Spotlight 🔦 As we wrap up the school year, we’re proud to celebrate three incredible members of our extended DBASD family who are retiring after years of dedicated service to our schools and students. 💙 Gary Ingham has been a fixture at the Middle School since the building opened in 2005, proudly supporting our school through his work with SSC Services for Education. His steady presence and behind-the-scenes work have helped keep our building running smoothly for nearly two decades. 💙 Jeanne Koch, a valued member of The Nutrition Group, has been keeping students fueled and cared for at the Middle School for the past 25 years. Her kindness, consistency, and warm smile have made the cafeteria a welcoming place for generations of Blazers. 💙 Nancy Kramer began her time at Boone in 2020 and continued with Krise Transportation when they became our provider in 2022. Nancy’s commitment to getting students to and from school safely has been deeply appreciated. They’ve truly been part of our Blazer family, and their presence will be missed. 🌟 Blazer Legacy Spotlight: Shelly Mieczkowski 🌟 After an incredible 41 years in the Daniel Boone Area School District—21 years as a Special Education teacher and 20 years as Director of Special Education—Shelly Mieczkowski retires having transformed lives and systems alike. Memorable Moments? Blazer Olympics and being featured on a 20/20 episode that highlighted one of her students with Asperger Syndrome when she was an Autistic Support teacher—just two shining examples of a career full of purpose. Over the years, Shelly championed inclusive education, working tirelessly to create structures that recognize individual strengths, promote independence, and foster belonging. 🛠️ Highlight Reel: Overhauled the district’s IEP development and implementation process Launched districtwide training to shift the culture from compliance to inclusion Built partnerships with families, agencies, and community organizations Led with advocacy, courage, and compassion in tough conversations Celebrated every milestone as students overcame obstacles and achieved success Left behind a stronger special education system, empowered faculty, and students who know they belong Shelly shares: “My years in Daniel Boone have taught me the value of building meaningful relationships with students, families, and colleagues. On Tuesday, June 3rd, members and families of the Class of 2025 gathered at the high school for a heartfelt Baccalaureate service. The evening was led by our Fellowship of Christian Students group under the guidance of club advisor Mr. Bret Stamy, in partnership with local members of the Southeastern Berks Ministerium: Rev. Andrew VanBuren and Rev. Midge Pendergast of St. Gabriel's Episcopal Church - Douglassville, Rev. Greg Frey and Deacon Joy Gerhart of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church - Douglassville, and Rev. Jim Farnsworth of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church - Birdsboro. 🍎 Blazer Legacy Spotlight: Bonnie Herb 🍎 After 31 years of dedicated teaching—18 in 3rd grade and 13 in 5th—Bonnie Herb leaves behind a legacy filled with laughter, kindness, and unforgettable moments. From softball games to space shuttles, Bonnie brought energy and heart into everything she did. “One of my favorite memories will always be the annual staff vs. students softball game. I can still picture Les Mountz winding up for a home run!” She also fondly remembers the inspiring leadership of Ann Marie Traynor and the camaraderie of her teammates throughout the years. 🌟 Highlight Reel: Field Days filled with smiles and sunshine That time a pony visited the classroom! 🐴 Getting "pie-d" in the face for reading challenges AIC staff fun and unforgettable days at BEC Space shuttle simulations, classroom adventures, and countless shared laughs Bonnie reflects on her time in the classroom with deep gratitude: “Teaching allowed me to appreciate all of the different children I’ve known. 📚 Blazer Legacy Spotlight: Robin Fox 📚 Celebrating 20 years of sparking curiosity and a love for reading in the halls of Daniel Boone! Robin Fox has been the heart of our libraries for two decades—serving at the High School, Middle School, and Intermediate Center. She fondly remembers helping to design the layout of the brand-new library when the Middle School first opened. “Working with the school community has been such a joy. 🎓 Blazer Legacy Spotlight: Barb Young 🎓 Celebrating 26 remarkable years of teaching, compassion, and community impact. Barb Young is more than a math teacher and self-proclaimed “math geek"—she's a force of good in the lives of 3,300+ students, colleagues and the DB community. ✨ Unforgettable Moment : “The impact we made with Relay For Life of Daniel Boone.” From 2011 to 2022, Barb helped raise over $1 million to fight cancer. Even during COVID, the mission never stopped. “There’s nothing like walking the survivor lap surrounded by students, friends, and family.” 🙌 Through teaching, Barb says she grew too: “I’m more empathetic. I’ve learned how one person can make a difference every day.” While she taught math, she focused on life lessons: “Being a good, productive human is more important than any one subject. College isn’t for everyone—we need people in trades, too. What we make doesn’t define our worth.” 💬 What she hopes students remember: “That I challenged them to think about math differently, to think critically, and to care. With a heart full of patience and a classroom full of curiosity, Anita helped her students build strong foundations—not just in reading and math, but in confidence, kindness, and resilience. 📚 One of her favorite memories? “The year I looped with my Kindergarten class to 1st grade! Day 1 was a breeze—we all knew what to expect from each other.” That unique experience brought extra joy and connection, a hallmark of Anita’s teaching approach. 🏥 Blazer Legacy Spotlight: Beth Haines 🏥 Celebrating 40 years of compassionate care—6 of them right here at Daniel Boone! After two decades serving students in Illinois and the last 6 years as a school nurse at Daniel Boone Area School District, Beth Haines is retiring with an incredible 40 years of nursing experience. She brought a wealth of knowledge, a deep well of empathy, and a great sense of humor to the halls of the Intermediate Center. Beth reflects: “Each day is full of new comments or situations that make me giggle. The kids say the darndest things that warm your heart! I came to DB with a lot of experience, but I quickly realized there’s always more to learn. I’ve learned so much here.” Known for being a safe space, a steady hand, and a true advocate, Beth has helped countless students and staff through everything from scraped knees to more serious challenges—with grace, encouragement, and often a bit of laughter. 💡 What she’ll remember most: The long line of students outside her door (some with real ailments, some just needing a moment) The meaningful conversations with parents, offering calm reassurance Encouraging staff and answering medical questions with patience and care Teaching puberty classes and hygiene basics (with humor and empathy!)
